Select type of die must be considered the requirement of stamping parts on shape, size and precision, stamping process plan, production batch quantity, the performance of stamping equipment, feeding and out method, safety, die manufacturing and maintenance ability, production preparation cycle and cost of stamping processing and other conditions. Make the final decision after a comprehensive analysis and comparison.
In small batch or trial production, usually adopt simple die, combination die or single process mold; In medium batch production, adopt single process die, compound die and progressive die. In mass production, cemented carbide composite die and multi - station automatic progressive die are used.
1. Single process die
Single process die is relatively easy to manufacture and commission. Sometimes several single process die’s manufacturing costs may be lower than - one "double compound die (or continuous die). When the size of workpiece is large, single process die should be preferred. Using several single process dies in the multi-station press can not only get the same productivity as the continuous die, but also change the blank stamping direction at any time in the stamping process.

2. Compound die
Compounddies can increase productivity exponentially. However, the number of composite process of composite die is generally less than four procedures, over 4 procedures will make the die structure too complex, the strength, stiffness and reliability of the die will also be reduced, manufacturing and maintenance more difficult.

3. Progressive die
A progressive die may include punching, bending, drawing and forming. It is easy to take parts and remove wastes, and it is easy to realize mechanization and automation, so high speed press can be used. However, when using progressive die stamping,If die cutting or local forming process is arranged on the side wall of the workpiece, the structure of the die will become complicated.

Adopt Single process die, compound die or progressive die is mainly depends on the size of parts, manufacturing tolerance and production batch.
